I am a firm believer that simplicity is key when it comes to skincare. Even better? Some of the best, natural, Holy Grail skin care products could well be sitting in your kitchen right now! Here’s a quick DIY face mask for a fresh face fix! This is great as a morning pick-me-up mask for a bright, awake feeling face or as an evening post-work detox.
You will need:
- Half a Lemon, squeezed
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp plain yoghurt
- (optional) 1 tbsp turmeric powder
- (optional) a few drops of Tea Tree Oil
Why these ingredients?
Lemon- antibacterial, skin brightening, rich in Vitamin C, helps hyper-pigmentation/scarring, naturally exfoliates the skin
Honey- full of antioxidants, moisturising, gives a glow, anti-inflammatory, nourishing, hydrating, skin healing
Plain Yoghurt- full of lactic acid- helps remove dead skin and tighten pores, moisturising, soothing, acne fighting
Turmeric- acne reducing, anti-inflammatory, a solution to dark circles
Tea Tree Oil- antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, a natural antiseptic, skin clearing
Method:
- Squeeze half a lemon into a bowl, followed by the plain yoghurt, and then the honey. (If using turmeric/tea tree oil add these in now)
- Mix well
- Spread evenly over face, taking extra caution around the eyes. I would recommend using a Facial Mask Brush for a swift, clean application, but even your hands or the back of a spoon will do the trick! Leave for 10-30 minutes depending on your skin’s sensitivity/how much time you have. If using turmeric only do 10-15 minutes otherwise it will stain the skin, trust me I’ve learnt the hard way! (For stains on the face, nails and hands, milk or lemon juice on a cotton pad are a great solution)
QUICK TIP- For best results always ensure your face is clean and free of makeup before applying a mask
