Natural Skin-Care Solution: Essential Oils

Putting oils on your face can sometimes be daunting, especially for those with oilier skin. However, many oils are great for combatting an abundance of skin troubles. Read on to find out more!
Essential Oils
These are a highly concentrated form of natural oils found in certain plants. They’re great because they’re 100% natural so you know exactly what you’re putting on your skin, but you must remember that they are highly concentrated, which means that you should always dilute them before putting them onto your skin. You can either buy diluted forms of these oils, mix them with water, or mix them with a carrier oil! I’d recommend the latter!
Carrier Oils
Carrier oils and essential oils go hand in hand. Carrier oils work to dilute the essential oils, therefore not irritating the skin, and containing their own nutritive and healing properties themselves. They also assist in the even spread of essential oils across the skin.
Here are a few Essential Oil’s I would recommend checking out:
1. Tea Tree (Melaleuca)
Antifungal and antibacterial properties which make it great for spot-prone skin.
2. Lemongrass
Effectively treats acne and reduces the appearance of pores. It can also reduce oiliness, act as a toner and give the skin a glow!
3. Rose
Great for dry skin as it contains moisturising properties. Good for acne because it helps fight oily skin and is an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory oil, reducing redness.
4. Frankincense
This is an amazing oil for preventing signs of ageing on the skin! Frankincense helps elasticity issues, production of skin cells- helping pigmentation, toning and tightening skin.
5. Patchouli
Traditionally used in Asian folk medicines, patchouli helps treat dry skin, acne, eczema, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes. Many people also find that it helps to smooth skin and give the skin a glow.
And now for some Carrier Oils...
1. Coconut
Coconut oil is a natural antioxidant with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is highly nourishing and naturally softens skin.
2. Avocado
This is a particularly thick and nourishing oil and is great at getting to deeper layers of the skin. Perfect for people with thinner or more mature skin. It also contains antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties and plenty of nutrients! It can also help treat eczema and psoriasis.
3. Argan
Rich in Vitamin A, this oil works quickly to regenerate skin cells. Provides natural protection from the sun. Aids healing and softening of skin, and prevents stretch marks and scars from forming.
4. Jojoba
Natural fungicide making it ideal for treating topical fungal infections. Has a high absorption rate. Also long lasting due to its resistance against oxidation.
5. Sweet Almond
Rich in antioxidant Vitamin E, sweet almond is highly nourishing and promotes skin cell regeneration. Balances skins natural oils and locks in moisture. Especially good for dry and irritated skin. Promotes younger looking skin.
How to:
There’s no specific way of mixing each of these essential oils with carrier oils, but I’d say a few drops (maybe 3-5) of your essential oil, with approximately half to one whole tablespoon of your carrier oil.  Then proceed to massage these into your skin. Leave on skin overnight for best results!
Enjoy! xx
