Summer Skin: Tips and tricks

Whether you’re heading down to Wimbledon, jetting off to a Mediterranean resort or just enjoying a sunny staycation, it’s essential to look after your skin, whatever the weather!



Always, always, always, wear SPF. Even if it’s not that sunny, it’s better to be safe than sorry! (UV rays are always present, and they can cause serious damage to our skin!!) Wearing SPF keeps you protected from the sun, prevents the formation of sun spots, burns, and ageing skin! A personal favourite of mine is the Body Shop Moisture defence SPF 50- it doesn’t feel tacky like sunscreen does on your face and it is lightweight, so make-up can glide on! Also, don’t skimp on eye cream and lip protection. Sun exposure will gradually thin skin and cause wrinkles. Protect the delicate areas of your face with appropriate creams and balm. And, of course, lather up on the SPF all over your body, especially if you’ve just been in the pool/sea.


Stay hydrated

A good moisturiser, alone, just isn’t enough to keep your skin looking fab ALL summer. More importantly it’s your body’s holy grail-water! Drink tonnes and tonnes, get yourself a Love Island water bottle (btw who else is loving this year’s series?!), whatever it is that’s going to encourage you to drink water non- stop!



Salicylic or Glycolic Acid

Use a cleanser with salicylic or glycolic acid. This is for the combo/oily skin types out there. This helps shed damaged and dry skin, while keeping your complexion clean to prevent future breakouts. Ignore this tip if you have dry, and/or sensitive skin…try a more gentle skin cleanser.

Don’t forget your hair

 If we skip this step, our hair is going to be dry, dull and prone to snapping! Chlorine pools and sea salt will only worsen these drying effects.

Moisturise your hair- stock up on oils, masks, conditioners, treatments, and wear a hat to protect your scalp!
