Tricks to Tackle Ashy Skin

If you have a deep skin tone, it’s likely that you know the struggle of your skin appearing a little ashy or grey. And whilst there are ways of masking this ashiness, such as using a colour corrector beneath makeup, I’d like to share with you a few ways to get to the root of the problem so that makeup-free days are that bit better! Ashiness is caused predominantly by having dry skin. Failing to give your skin the moisture it needs, will result in it looking more dull and discoloured.
  1. Moisturise
In this instance, of course moisturise during the day, but also ensure that you pick a long-lasting moisturiser to wear overnight, too. Any moisturiser that leaves your skin feeling hydrated hours after application is your best bet. My personal favourite would have to be Baselift’s very own Youth Boosting Retinol Cream. It’s slightly more dense than your average moisturiser, but doesn’t leave your skin feeling clogged, rather it feels soft and beautifully hydrated for hours on end!
  1. Drink Water
This goes without saying, but as we are approaching Autumn, maintaining hydration isn’t as much a priority as it it is in summer, it may be worth investing in a practical (and cute) water bottle to urge you to keep drinking water at work/uni and on-the-go.
  1. Turn down the heat
Another factor influencing dry skin, will be your surroundings. Try and wash your face/ashy areas with cooler water- this will prevent them from drying out. If the air in your home is always dry, this will also strip your skin of natural oils it needs to stay hydrated. Rather than putting the heating on, wrap up and grab a hot water bottle- your skin needs as much moisture as it can get!
  1. Exfoliate
Ashy skin is caused by a build-up of dead skin cells. Get rid of these by exfoliating once or twice a week to remove any flaky skin build-up.
  1. Derma Roll!
We truly swear by derma-rolling at Baselift. After seeing so many incredible skin transformations we believe it is a must-do for anyone and everyone!* Derma rolling resurfaces the skin, and in doing so can really help combat hyperpigmentation, scarring, and uneven skin tone. If you have sensitive skin and are looking to combat ashiness we recommend our 0.3mm Derma Roller, but otherwise we recommend the 0.5mm derma roller as the larger needles will get to work quicker on your skin. Read a little more about derma rolling on our website or head over to our Instagram to watch how people use it and the results that can be achieved from doing so.
*Please note that we do not recommend the use of any Baselift products throughout pregnancy so that your body can focus solely on the development of the baby.
